WORKING ON BIOGAS PROJECT, MAHKOTA GROUP WILL SELL TO PLN
21 February 2020
PT Mahkota Group Tbk (MGRO) will develop a biogas project in Indonesia. The company through its subsidiaries signed two definitive agreements to develop biogas projects in Indonesia with Gree Energy in two palm oil mills.
“The biogas project will be connected to the Indonesian electricity company, PLN, each with a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement which is currently being developed,” said CEO of PT Mahkota Group Tbk, Usli Sarsi, in Jakarta, Thursday (2/20/2020).
According to him, the 3 MW biogas project will generate clean, reliable electricity and reach more than 27,000 people with 16 GWh of electricity generated per year. The project seeks to mitigate the impact of climate change through innovative solutions by reducing 76,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year which is equivalent to the emissions of 42,000 people.
In addition, a total of 13,000 tons of BOD (biological oxygen demand) will be cleaned per year, equivalent to domestic waste generated by 1,600,000 people. These projects will contribute to the Mahkota Group's refineries in Riau, where the need for CPO will increase, and also apply sustainability principles in line with ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil), and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovative renewable energy projects.
“We hope that the partnership with GREE Energy will bring positive impacts to the community and contribute to emission reduction, which is in line with our values in implementing ISPO sustainability standards. The benefits of this project will add to the company's revenue and as a form of concern for the environment,” he said.
Meanwhile CEO and Founder of Gree Energy, Nicolas Strirer said he was very pleased to partner with a large group like Mahkota and assist them in their transition to more sustainable production, dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions from their 2 factories.
“This partnership will also boost the local economy and promote inclusive development and prosperity in the villages surrounding the project,” he concluded.
