The industrial revolution in Indonesia experienced rapid growth. Starting in the 18th century, the industrial revolution 1.0 was characterized by the use of steam engines in mass-producing goods. Work using a lot of human labor began to decrease. The industrial revolution 2.0 began in the early 20th century with the discovery of electric power. Industrial revolution 3.0 in the 1800s with the discovery of data computing systems. Industrial revolution 4.0 is characterized by the development of the internet and digital technology.
“The development of digital technology has now become part of people's lives,” said the Rector of Mahkota Tricom Unggul University, Prof. Ir. H. Zulkarnain Lubis M.S, Ph.D at the opening of a webinar entitled ‘Digital Business in Urban Farming’ organized by Mahkota Tricom Unggul University (MTU) in collaboration with Pak Tani Digital, Saturday (18/12).
Nowadays, said Zulkarnain Lubis, people cannot be separated from the use of digital technology in their daily lives.
He said that mastery of digital technology is very important, especially in marketing goods and services. To respond to this need, a number of universities in Java have opened Digital Business Study Programs. While in North Sumatra only two universities have opened Digital Business Study Programs, namely Medan State University and MTU University.
“MTU University is the only private university in North Sumatra that has a Digital Business Study Program. This is an opportunity for graduates in North Sumatra to deepen their knowledge in digital business which is certainly much needed by the industry,” he explained.
Head of the MTU University Digital Business study program, Eka Martyna T. Tampubolon, SE, MM explained that currently the country that uses the most digital technology is still held by China, followed by the United States. While developing countries that are experiencing rapid progress in the use of digital technology are Indonesia.
“Online shopping in Indonesia is on the rise,” he said.
Don't be surprised if starup companies in Indonesia have experienced rapid growth in recent years.
Head of the Agribusiness Study Program at MTU University, Suwandy Purba, S.P, M.Si revealed that agriculture is not only carried out by rural communities but is now developing into urban communities. By utilizing land in the yard, walls and roofs of buildings by means of 'wall gardening, viticulture, hydroponic, aqua phonic, and Top roof ornamental plants and vegetables.
Usually only as a hobby and aesthetic yard to fulfill their own needs, it has developed into a business of additional sources of income.
The development of digital technology has caused a trend of shifting culture from off line to on line. This has a positive impact on urban farming which will become a network that can bring together producers, transporter services and end users so that agricultural products can arrive quickly so that freshness and quality are guaranteed.
The establishment of this Urban Farming community will certainly be able to attract graduates to explore agricultural science. As a startup provider of Agro-input facilities, and a reliable manager and marketer of urban farming products.
