CAMPUS BREEDS YOUNG CAPITAL MARKET INVESTORS
16 September 2022
Rector of Mahkota Tricom Unggul University (MTU) Dr. Dompak Pasaribu SE, M.Si, CPA, CACP gave shares of a number of publicly listed companies to MTU new students at the implementation of Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) at Campus A Jati Junction Building Medan, Saturday (10/9).
“We want students to not only attend lectures, but also actively invest in the capital market, therefore at MTU a Capital Market Study Community (KSPM) will be formed so that students can understand what investment in the capital market is. By knowing how to invest in the capital market, students can improve their finances,” said Dompak, who is also the Independent Commissioner of PT Mark Dynamics Indonesia (MDI).
For information, said Dompak, based on data from PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI), the number of investors in the Indonesian capital market has increased by 92.99% from 3.88 million investors at the end of 2020 to 7.49 million at the end of 2021. As of the end of June 2022, investors were dominated by young investors with the latest high school education, which reached a percentage of 61.41% with total assets of IDR 191 trillion.
With the establishment of KSPM, MTU students have expertise in investing in the capital market. Even though they are still in college, students can already improve their finances. Through KSP all MTU students have expertise in investing in the capital market. That way after graduating from college, students can increase their finances in the capital market.
Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the number of Indonesian capital market investors until June 2022 has exceeded 9 million. This number is still relatively small when compared to Indonesia's population of 270 million people. Therefore, MTU is a campus that produces capital market investors.
He explained that PKKMB activities are very important for new students to explain how the form of education in higher education is much different from when they were still at school. MTU lectures have implemented merdeka belajar kampus merdeka (MBKM), filling out study plan cards (KRS) and study result cards (KHS) which can be filled in online so that students can do it anywhere and do not need to come to campus.
Lectures are conducted both online and offline. This is done to make it easier for students, especially those who have worked.
“Many people are unable to continue their education due to work reasons. With this form of study, there are no barriers for students who are already working,” he said.
