When the whole world is facing the Covid- 19 Pandemic, the use of Big Data becomes very important in monitoring the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Every hour, every minute everyone in the world continues to observe the spread of Covid-19. Not only the spread around their area, but also in other areas and even the world.
“How can the data on the spread of the Covid-19 virus issued be a reference for policy makers,” said the keynote speaker of the international seminar Methodology of Big Data Analytics, Prof. Dr. Dorien De Tombe from Utrecht University Netherlands organized by Mahkota Tricom Unggung University (MTU) with STIE Bina Karya at the MTU University Campus Grand Jati Junction Building 25th Floor Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan No. 3A Medan, Monday, November 27, 2023.
Big Data today, said Dorien De Tombe, has an important role before making a decision. Without data, decisions made can be wrong.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, big data became very important in looking at a problem, such as how many people were affected by Covid-19, how many people died from Covid-19 and how many people recovered from Covid-19. These data are updated every hour, so that we can know the level of success carried out in handling Covid-19.
Not only in handling Covid-19, Big Data is also used in other cases.
Meanwhile, the Rector of MTU University, Dr. Dompak Pasaribu, SE, M.Si, CPA, CACP in his remarks said that Big Data is not only used by lecturers and employees in conducting research, but also by various parties including the government in making policies.
Previously, the Chairperson of the Committee, Miftahul Jannah, S.T., M.Kom, who is also the Chairperson of the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of MTU University, explained that big data is important in the digital era, including lecturers and students in conducting research activities.
