OPENING OF NINE SECTORS STEPS TO ECONOMIC RECOVERY
10 June 2020
The government's plan to gradually open nine economic sectors, namely mining, petroleum, industry, construction, plantations, agriculture and animal husbandry, fisheries, logistics, and transportation of goods in areas free from the Covid-19 pandemic (green zone) is the right step. These nine sectors can restart the Indonesian economy.
“I appreciate that entering the new normal the government plans to open 9 economic sectors in Indonesia, while still complying with health protocols. During the Covid-19 pandemic many economic sectors were stalled, “said President Director of PT Mahkota Group Tbk (MGRO) Usli Sarsi when contacted by Analisa via cellular telephone recently.
Of the nine sectors, said Usli, support each other Plantations will not run if they are not supported by industry. Industry will not move if there is no transportation and logistics. And vice versa.
According to Usli, palm oil is Indonesia's mainstay commodity and a source of foreign exchange income. Moreover, Indonesia is the world's largest producer and exporter of palm oil and its derivatives.
“The palm oil sector will make a major contribution in reviving the Indonesian economy. Especially in a pandemic situation. Many sectors are affected and are no longer able to contribute to the state,” he said.
Of course, pro-palm industry regulations such as ease of licensing, maximum implementation of B30 can encourage power plants with raw materials from the remaining palm oil production (Sustainable) and others can have a broad impact on economic growth in Indonesia.
The strategy that the government can do to keep CPO running well is to carry out negative campaigns from several export destination countries.
The palm oil industry produces biosurfactant products such as bath soap, laundry soap, detergent, shampoo, hand wash, hand sanitizer, and the like that are needed by the global community to maintain personal hygiene, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Oil palm plantations are the largest source of vitamin A (beta carotene) and vitamin E (tocopherol) than any other crop in the world.
Palm oil as a food ingredient contains palmiic fatty acids that function to maintain lung function. Therefore, it is estimated that in the new normal era there will be an increase in palm oil consumption.
Entering the new normal era, it is conceivable that as many as 6 billion people in the world will buy more soap, handwash, hand sanitizer, detergent, and biodisinfectant/biopesticide every day. In addition, consumption of vitamins A and E to maintain immunity and lung function will also increase.
