USLI SARSI : THE WORLD NEED PALM OIL MORE THAN EVER
15 December 2021
El Nino and La Nina climate change has hit various countries causing many problems such as floods, landslides. Many agricultural and plantation lands have failed to harvest or production yields have decreased. Likewise, the Covid-19 pandemic, which is almost entering its second year, has forced people to reduce activities to prevent transmission, causing the economy to run slowly. Many business sectors have to stop, but not the palm oil industry which can still run normally throughout the pandemic, even though it is still implementing health protocols.
“This shows that the palm oil industry sector from upstream to downstream is strong enough to face various problems in supporting economic growth,” said President Director of PT Mahkota Group Tbk, Usli Sarsi.
Rest of the World
Can you imagine if there is a shortage of energy and consumer good raw materials in a number of countries, while Indonesia produces little palm oil? Of course, many countries will have difficulty getting energy sources to power machinery and fulfill basic needs.
Data from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) recorded that Indonesia's CPO production in 2020 was 47 million tons. This number has increased every year. Not to mention the addition of CPO from several producing countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Colombia and Nigeria, it turns out that it is still unable to meet world needs. This is what is happening now, the demand for CPO in the world is increasing, while the availability of CPO is small.
“This proves that the world needs CPO,” Usli said.
Oil palms can only live at 6 degrees north latitude to 11 degrees south latitude and parallel to the equator at 96 degrees to 141 degrees east longitude.
Of these requirements, Indonesia's land is the most suitable for palm oil, while several other countries have little land, the rest are in the sea. This shows that although the world needs CPO, not many countries can produce CPO.
