LIFTING THE PALM OIL EXPORT BAN IS THE RIGHT STEP
20 May 2022
The Indonesian Employers Association of North Sumatra (Apindosu) welcomed the government's plan to lift the export ban on palm oil products including cooking oil and CPO that took effect on Monday (23/5).
This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of Apindosu in the field of plantations and agriculture, Usli Sarsi via short message to Tribun Online (20/5).
According to Usli, the lifting of the export ban on palm oil products by the government has gone through an in-depth study and analysis of the development of cooking oil prices in the country.
President Jokowi said that the supply of cooking oil in the country in April 2022 reached 211 thousand tons per month, exceeding the national demand of approximately 194 thousand tons per month. In addition, there is also a decrease in the national average price of cooking oil. In April before the export ban, the national average price of bulk cooking oil was around IDR 19,800, and after the export ban the national average price fell to IDR 17,200- 17,600. Another consideration for the lifting of the export ban on palm oil products by the government is that there are 17 million people in the palm oil industry, including farmers, workers, and other support personnel who are affected by the export ban on palm oil products.
“We hope that the lifting of the export ban on palm products for domestic cooking oil needs is a top priority. We hope that palm oil industry players will allocate palm oil products for domestic needs,” Usli appealed.
Usli said that Apindosu strongly supports the government's steps to continue to supervise and monitor closely to ensure that supplies remain fulfilled at affordable prices. Likewise, the government's efforts to revamp procedures and regulations at the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency so that they continue to be simplified and facilitated, so that they are more adaptive and solutive in facing the dynamics of domestic oil supply and prices, so that people can be protected and have their needs met.
“With a comprehensive improvement in the trade system, hopefully our palm oil industry can develop rapidly and can provide welfare for all stakeholders in the country we love,” Usli said.
