OJK - PANIN SECURITIES - MTU - BEI CAPITAL MARKET INVESTMENT SEMINAR

01 December 2022

Millennials are Wise in Investing Through Capital Market

The Financial Services Authority (OJK), Panin Sekuritas, Mahkota Tricom Unggul University (MTU) and the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) conducted a socialization with the theme “Wise Millennials Investing Through the Capital Market” to students and millennials at the MTU Campus Jati Junction Building Medan, Monday (28/11).

MTU Rector Dr. Dompak Pasaribu, SE, M.Si, CPA, CACP in his remarks said that millennials must be literate in investing through the capital market. This is very important so that millennials are wise to have investments through the capital market. Don't make the wrong choice. Nowadays, there are many fraudulent investments that offer huge profits to attract millennials to invest.

“The presence of resource persons from the OJK, Indonesia Stock Exchange and Panin Sekuritas can increase the knowledge of students and millennials to invest more wisely through the capital market,” he hoped. Through this socialization, he hopes that students and millennials can increase their knowledge of investing in the capital market.

Setia Jaya Manurung, Head of Capital Market Supervision of OJK Regional Office 5 North Sumatra, explained that OJK was established in 2011. Before the OJK was established, financial supervision was carried out by Bank Indonesia. OJK was established because of the Century Bank case. Then the DPR urged that an intense financial supervision institution be formed for the capital market, banking and non-bank industries and the OJK was born. The financial services industry under OJK supervision is banks, insurance, financing, pension funds, pawnshops and capital markets. OJK's task is to regulate and supervise financial services and protect consumers and the public.

“The OJK has an investment alert task force,” he said.

The task force is tasked with dealing with illegal investment issues in collaboration with the police, prosecutors' office, ministry of trade, ministry of communication and informatics, ministry of cooperatives and MSMEs, Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

Head of the IDX Representative Office of North Sumatra M Pintor Nasution said that currently Indonesia is getting a demographic bonus where the productive age is more. Of Indonesia's population of 270 million, the productive age is 200 million.

The problem faced by millennials and Gen Z in investing in the capital market is fomo, which is an excessive feeling of fear when not buying stocks that have increased in price. Easily believe in the huge profits offered by an investment so that they are trapped in fraudulent investments. An example of a fraudulent investment case experienced by hundreds of IPB students. This is where millennials and generation Z are wise in investing by first finding out whether the investment is illegal or legal. The method is very easy by finding out at the OJK.

Millennials and Generation Z sometimes forget to find out whether an investment is illegal or legal.

“Don't immediately trust public figures who endorse the investment. It could be that public figures are paid to promote investments,” he said.

Panin Sekuritas Senior Equity Sales, Andika Sujarwadi explained that as millennials and generation Z who wisely invest in the capital market, we must first recognize the risk profile so that in implementing trading, portfolio and money management strategies we know the criteria for stocks to be purchased, the time period to hold and when we want to sell them.

“Diverisification and discipline are important in successfully investing in the capital market,” he said.
