APINDOSU VICE CHAIRMAN USLI SARSI APPRECIATES RSPO CERTIFIED OIL PALM PLANTATIONS
17 November 2023
Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association of North Sumatra (APINDOSU), in the field of plantations and agriculture Usli Sarsi is optimistic that there will be more oil palm plantations and palm oil industries in Indonesia that are certified and members of The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
“The increasing number of oil palm plantations and the RSPO-certified palm oil industry shows that Indonesia is serious in making improvements,” Usli said when contacted by cellular telephone, Saturday (11/11).
Based on data released by RSPO Market Transformation, in 2022 the RSPO Indonesia Certification area grew by 4% and continued to grow by another 6% from January to September 2023, this means that there are 2.5 million hectares of land, including plantation land and areas certified by independent smallholders (ISH). In the January-October 2023 period, there was another increase of 19%. This increase is inseparable from the increasing production and consumption of certified palm oil.
“Many industries are ready to accept the RSPO global sustainability standard. This is encouraging news. That way Indonesian palm oil products can increasingly compete and be trusted, not only domestically but also abroad,” Usli said.
Still from the data released by RSPO Market Transformation, Usli said, in 2022 25 new mills have been certified in accordance with the Principles and Criteria (P&C) of the RSPO Standard, with a growing number of 18 more new units in the third quarter of 2023.
“I really appreciate that more and more oil palm plantations and the palm oil industry are certified,” he said.
