MTU UNIVERSITY HOLDS SIGAP CULTURAL SEMINAR
21 May 2024
The current education system only aims to make students “winners” and “famous” but does not equip students with the secret to a happy life, which is the ability to distinguish between right and wrong.
This was expressed by I Nyoman Sumantra, S.Pd., M.Sos when he was a resource person for a seminar entitled “Cultured SIGAP with Global Competitiveness” held by Mahkota Tricom Unggul University (MTU) at the Grand Jati Junction Tower C Building 25th Floor Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan Medan, Friday (5/17).
Nyoman said that realizing MTU as a “Sacred Place of Learning” for superior human resources through Human Values.
Character is paramount. When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost and when character is lost, everything is lost.
According to him, the determining factor in achieving the goals of a nation is the quality of education. A good quality education will produce quality human resources. If the quality of human resources is good, it will form the character of the nation and thus the progress of the nation can be achieved. In building a dignified nation, the most important thing is individual identity so that it forms the identity of the nation.
The quality of a person is determined by their character. Humans live against nature and that is suffering. Man lives in accordance with nature and that is happiness. Therefore, man comes from love, is born through love, lives in love and releases himself with love. With love can give birth to truth, non-violence, virtue and peace.
Realizing Human Character requires mindset, morals and ethics.
Soft Skill
While the Chairman of Mahkota Tricom Foundation, Usli Sarsi reminded “Soft Skills are the key to success in the era of modern higher education.
There are three basic components of success in life, namely Spiritual Quotient (SQ) the ability to understand and connect with the meaning of life, values, and spiritual aspects of life. Emotional Quotient (EQ) the ability to recognize, understand, and control their own emotions and understand the emotions of others. This intelligence is important in building personal, professional, and social relationships and showing empathy for the feelings of others, and Intelligence Quotient (IQ) the intellectual ability to solve problems, understand information, and complete tasks that require logical thinking. It is the intelligence to think, remember, understand, evaluate, process, master the environment, and act in a purposeful manner.
To survive, said Usli, who is also the Director of the Indonesian Sathya Sai Education Institute (LPSSI), it is not the strongest who survive. It is not the smartest who survive, but those who can adapt and have soft skills.
There are six components of soft skills, namely communication skills, organizational skills, leadership, business skills, cooperation skills and attitudes and morals.
Research results at Harvard University show that success is not determined by knowledge and technical ability (hard skills), but rather by the ability to manage oneself and others (soft skills). Hard skill factors only affect 20 percent of a person's success, and the remaining 80 percent are soft skill factors.
Previously, the Rector of MTU University, Dr. Dompak Pasaribu, SE, M.Si, CPA, CACP said that MTU University has the motto SIGAP, namely Spiritual, Integrity, Persistent, Adaptive, Professional.
He said MTU University has only been running for two years after undergoing changes from a high school with only two study programs, namely management and accounting, to a university with six study programs, namely digital business, management, agribusiness, information technology, information systems and accounting.
“With the motto of MTU University, which is to be able to become a superior university,” he said.
